Post-Mining Land Use

Reimagine Rehab is a bold regional initiative that seeks to unlock new economic, environmental, and social value from legacy mining lands across the Greater Whitsunday region. Building on years of dialogue and collaboration, including work through the CRC TiME Bowen Basin Hub, EnviroMETS Lighthouse Projects, and the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday Regional Water Strategy, the prospectus consolidates regional insights into a cohesive vision for transformative post-mining land use. It positions rehabilitation not as an end-point, but as a launchpad for innovation, investment, and long-term prosperity.

Anchored by the emerging Isaac Resources Excellence Precinct, the Reimagine Rehab prospectus identifies actionable pathways to repurpose post-mining landscapes into productive, sustainable assets. The initiative aligns with the Greater Whitsunday METS Sector Revenue Diversification Strategy and calls for coordinated action to integrate existing efforts, clarify strategic priorities, and focus investment where it will have the greatest impact. It’s a call to government, industry, and community to reimagine what’s possible and to shape a resilient, opportunity-rich future for the region.
